Yellin – Post 7

American History X is one of my favorite movies and I also really like the poster for it. The movie is about a reformed white supremacist so it is not shocking that the designer chose to use a white background and even make Edward Norton’s skin color lighter. I love the use of shade around Norton’s shoulders and head to separate him from the white background. There appears to be a sense of pain in Ed Norton’s face which is emphasized by the use of black around his eyes. The designer also uses black to make Norton’s tattoos stand out as things he is ashamed of. This can also be realized by his hand over his heart which consequently attempts to cover up the swastika on his chest.
