Over break I watched this movie, and I thought the poster for it is great.
First of all, the design leads your eyes right down the middle of the page so you see lead actor James Franco’s name and the title of the movie. It’s also an intriguing design, something that makes you want to keep looking at it.
I also like the colors of the background, how it goes from a dark blue at the top and ends on a reddish orange. It gives you a sense of moving through time (think day to night, night to day, etc.) And the whole movie is about a guy who gets stuck in a canyon for 127 so I think the moving through time feel is appropriate.
Overall this poster is really cool. It catches your eye and leads it right to the movie title. It’s interesting and appealing.

I agree with your assessment of this poster. It is very well designed so as to illuminate the name of the movie and the lead actor. I also like what you said about the colors, they seem to imply that it is about to become night and that the sun is literally and figuratively setting on him.

I agree with you about the colors, for sure. I really like the contrast. The background is so bright and beautiful, and the sides are darker and more neutral. I have never seen the movie, so this could be completely irrelevant and, consequently, awkward, BUT it looks like the background is an hourglass. This is a very interesting poster, and I agree with you when you say that it is one that you want to keep looking at.

I completely agree with you. The design of the poster definitely makes you look twice at what is going on. I also like how they positioned the titled and created the design around it drawing your eye directly to it. Your assessment of the color choice in the background was great. It definitely does show a passing of time, which as you said is the whole plot of the movie. Overall this was a great example of a good poster.

I watched the trailer of this movie last week. I can’t agree more to you. I really love the color contrast on the top and the bottom. The contrast forms tension that the main character went through in 127 hours. Best thing about this poster is that the narrowed middle leads viewers eyes to the title and make them wonder what movie this would be. And if I look at the poster from the distance, I see sandglass and can assume that this movie is related to time.

I also agree that this is a great example of a poster. I have seen this movie and I think that the poster catches the essence of how intense the movie is and how the lack of time is so important. I didn’t even notice that the rocks from a distance look like an hour glass, but that makes it even better as a poster.
The poster also uses informational hierarchy and how the movie title is largest, then that it is a true story and then the leading actors name and the typeface size goes down with each less important piece of information.
